20th July: International Chess Day 2021
International Chess Day is celebrated on July 20th every year. Chess was invented in India in the 5th century and was later called “Chaturanga”. International Chess Day is celebrated every year as the founding day of FIDE (World Chess Federation). This year marks the 97th anniversary of FIDE.

The oldest strategy games in the world The day received a new seal of approval on December 12, 2019, when the United Nations General Assembly unanimously passed resolution 74/22, which declared July 20 World Chess Day.
Chess is a board game for two players played on a square board consisting of 64 smaller squares with eight squares on each side. Each player starts with sixteen pieces: eight pawns, two knights, two bishops, two rooks queen, and a king.
