August 10: World Lions Day 2021

Celebrate World Lions Day on August 10 each year to raise awareness and help protect lions. Big cats are listed as critically endangered species in the Red List of the World Conservation Union. The Asian lion is one of five big cats found in India. The other four are the

• Royal Bengal Tiger,
• Cheetah,
• Clouded Leopard
• Snow Leopard.

Lions are the main predator in their habitat. They control the herbivore population, which helps maintain ecological balance. Healthy and sustainable prey because they target the weakest members of the herd and indirectly contribute to disease control of the prey population.
